Computer Experts Of All Types

When I began working last year in a small hometown computer store I never thought I would become as interested in web design and computer repair as I find myself today. It is truly amazing what can be done using the right codes, in the right order the functions and designs that become art. It still also amazes me that a computer technician is more like a doctor than anyone will ever know. The artists and doctors within the computer world are an amazing breed and the role in society that they play is one that keeps us all advancing.
Everyday business owners big and small are in need of computer services be it website design, search engine optimization or computer repair. Website design is the first basic element in starting a business. A website with intense search engine optimization can grow your business as fast as any store front out there. Your website is the window display of your business online. It is important to ensure that the design is one that fits the persona you want for your business.
Here are a few things to think about when explaining your desires for website design:
1)No matter what you think background music is nothing but a distraction. Avoid adding music to a site unless of course you sell cds and are giving samplings of such things as featured artists.
2)Font size needs to be kept reasonable. Large font makes people assume you are shouting and no one enjoys being shouted at. The same thing is true with small font size. People assume you are whispering and it makes your message seem unimportant and little.
3)Too many layers. Your message should be important enough not to have it pushing through to show importance. When using layers it is important that they serve a purpose other than throwing useless annoying message in the faces of visitors.
4)When going in for your consultation it is important to let your web designer know colors that are appealing to you and to prepare a list of sites that have layout that you enjoy. It is also important to share sites that you dont like. Sharing this will give your designer an idea about the styles that will please you.

Another important aspect of business is to have functioning equipment. When something is on the fritz it is important to know that you have a trusted computer repair company to support their operations. Computer repair comes in all shapes and sizes. Computer issues arise from keyboard failure to server malfunctions all of which become of the utmost importance. The timing is critical in computer repair. The job of computer technicians is to ensure that the business is unaffected no matter what day or time an issue should arise.

The same is true in general computer repair. Technology does not wait for a good time to have a hard drive failure or virus. Computer technicians will be able to examine issues and follow a route of repair in order to ensure the computer is up and running in a timely fashion. Whatever issues that arises within your computer it is important that a certified technician care for your computer. Everyone has somebody who knows everything there is too know about computers in their lives. However, I will tell you those are the people I have the pleasure to check in everyday. Trust me it is cheaper to have your computer repairs done the right way the first time.

The Impact Of Social Network Sites On Communication

Before the Internet existed, the only way people could make socialise was through collective gatherings and face to face exchanges. Things have changed though. With the emergence of social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Bebo and so forth, people can now keep in touch with friends and family all around the world. In fact, it is now more common to new people online than in real life (this is predominantly within teenagers and young adults who have catapulted social network sites into the dominate force they are today).

Likewise, the days of instantaneously planning week nights and weekend outings are also lessening. If the weather isnt looking to good, individuals would preferably opted to stay indoors and log on to their favourite social network site (mine is Facebook). Now to clear things up, people do still frequently go out with family, friends and colleague, but at the same time, people do spending a great deal of time online (unlike in previously).

I think there are a few reasons for this. One could be that fact that it is easy to talk online. People only see the words you write, so youre free to express yourself more clearly without the worry of tone and facial expressions present in real life interactions. Most of the social networking web design revolves around this idea. Another reason could be that people are not as open to meeting new people in the flesh any more. Walking up to a complete stranger is still very challenging even for the most confident individual. This becomes doubly hard when its a person youre attracted to; thus, people find it much easier to introduce themselves online, where the only bad thing that can happen is the person not replying back.

However, cynics claim that people should stop logging into Facebook, Twitter etc and start going out and meeting real people more. Their argument is that, social network junkies are ruining their communications skills by staying indoors and neglecting face to face interactions. On the other hand, with everyone so busy with work, family and relationships, it much easier to communicate online than wait weeks for people to have an opening in their schedules.

A more practical concern is the dependency factor that social networks seem to have. Once you start, it can be very difficult to stop. I guess website designers have done a good job in creating web design in such way that provides you an electronic life. In fact, sites like Facebook do not even allow you delete your profile. The only option you have is to deactivate your account, but at anytime, you can always reactivate it. This means serious social network users can easily fall back into the habit of staying online for hours on end.

In my opinion, social networking sites are a good medium of keeping in touch with friends and family. However, these sites can sometimes be an obstruction. Individuals, who stay on social network sites, may fail to build important interpersonal skills, as well as, seriously affect their concentration span in some cases. If you are a social network user, please use them with a degree of restraint and self-control.
Do you agree or disagree? What is your personal view on social networking sites? Tell me what you think and please include any information you feel I have left out.

Good Web Design – Why attraction is never good enough

Most web designers mistakenly focus on designing web sites that attract customers. This leads to websites that are not well designed to meet the needs of the visitor or customer. After years involved in web design and the evaluation and optimization of websites, which recently concluded that the vast majority of web sites today is a better design than they were 5 years ago.

Yes, websites designed over the past five years certainly look better and have more features and impressive effects wow, incredible graphics and intelligent video. But that does not mean that web sites that perform better meet the needs of the visitor or the owner of the website. In fact, very often these effects, graphics and flash videos while enhancing the visual appeal of the web page of the website and actually worse in terms of performance. By performance I mean how well the site meets the goals that should have been designed to meet.

When you are looking to have a website designed or redesigned first thing to establish is what are the objectives of the web?

What is the purpose of the site?

It is the purpose of:

1. Stun visitors with a jaw dropping graphics and effects? 2. Getting good reviews for his website from other web designers? 3. Inform and educate visitors? 4. Attract visitors interested in what the right of the website has to offer? 5. Sell products or services? 6. Attract potential customers or subscribers?

If you want evidence of the extent to which web designers are focused on the visual aspect of a website rather than fit for purpose, it suffices to look at dozens of websites that show what they consider to be good designs web.

These sites are a good showcase of web design 1000 ‘s of websites submitted by web designers to be reviewed and voted for many of their peers, or so it seems. Examples are siteinspire.net, unmatchedstyle.com, csselite.com, beautiful2.com, webcreme.com, creattica.com, divinecss.com, foliofocus.com, and bestwebgallery.com cartfrenzy.com. Some but not all sites show the state what they consider web design as well the guidelines of your presentation.

Unmatchedstyle. com is dedicated to recognizing those who have made exceptionally gorgeous web sites through the use of web standards and best practices of use.

Foliofocus.com is a web design gallery exists to show the best collection of sites and web designers portfolio, photographers and other professionals.

Cartfrenzy.com is a design gallery for the best-designed e-commerce and shopping Web sites.

Bestwebgallery. com offers a wide range of quality websites in the design (Flash and CSS). They will declare what quality design means to them, which is: Quality Design = Visual + Technical + Creativity Note here the emphasis is on visual appearance, explosion technical wiz and creative merit.

Based on my own experience auditing and evaluating Web sites and on sites that appear to show how the above is why I have concluded that the designers are too focused on creating good looking websites that attract their peers.

Case Study

As if to prove the point that conducted a detailed study of a highly rated website listed in unmatchedstyle.com. In choosing the site of this case study was also looking for the site of a web design company since it must represent all that is best in a good web design. The site received a 9.1 out 10 for the good site design exhibition and a video review.

After my detailed case study evaluation of the site that determined the design of web pages quality rating of 3.9 on main page 10 and the website as a whole was rated 4.2 out of 10. Of course, I have used different criteria to my qualifications for the good quality web design that made the exhibition website that gave a rating of 9.1.

To homepage using a list that evaluated 12 design categories, with 135 elements and page layout throughout the website using a list that evaluates 91 aspects of site design.

The 226 design aspects of web pages that are not present also were given a severity rating. This classification of severity is based on the level of impact of missing aspect in the design and the frequency with which it occurred.

The number of aspects that went along with the website or website with the severity level is used in a formula to determine a rating of good quality web design.

What emerges from this case study is the location used in the study received high marks 9.1 for good site design showcase based on assessment criteria very different from mine, which gave the site a rating of only 4.2.

So the question is, what classification for good website design is to the right, a showcase site classification of 9.1 or 4.2 my score?

Well, that depends on whether you want to base a rating for a good web design largely in good condition, or a detailed assessment of 226 aspects of good web design you would expect in a well designed website.

Decide on what is a good web site design also depends on whether you want a website that looks good and is designed for one purpose and to meet clearly defined objectives. If you want a website that does more than look good, then you need to look a little closer at the design of your website as just looking good is never good enough, at least not for me.

Just having a good looking web site good enough for you?

Reno Web Design Firms

In today’s time-crunched world, most people literally don’t have a minute to spare. This hurried pace extends to the realm of website design — your professional Web design must satisfy the demands of users with a wide range of options for viewing the Web.
Even if you create a website design that’s worth a wait, visitors faced with slow download speed aren’t likely to stick around. So how can you make sure that time is on your side? Pay close attention to seven professional Web design tips to create a website that won’t slow your business down.
Clean up your code
While HTML text is much faster than graphic text, there are ways you can make it even faster. Watch out for extraneous HTML coding like spaces, unnecessary tags and even white space — that can increase the size of your files. Remember that less is more, and use defaults for tags or remove them wherever possible.
Compress your images
Images are a great example of how looks can be deceiving in professional Web design. You might not realize just how much space they occupy when you create a website design. By compressing your images before adding them to your professional Web design, you can reduce/shrink a GIF or .JPEG image by up to half its original size. You may also want to specify the height and weight of your images in your HTML, which can decrease loading time.
Pay attention to page size
Even if you use all of the tips above, your page size may still be big enough to cause a slow response when all the pieces of your website are put together. Remember that less is often more in professional Web design, and use only the content that is absolutely necessary. Ideal page size is around 30KB.
Use thumbnails
Thumbnails are an especially helpful website design technique for ecommerce websites. Provide customers with a small, fast-loading image of your product and let them decide whether they want to view the larger version of the image.
Limit use of flash
Flash is a classic example of style over substance and, while it definitely has its place in professional Web design, it must be used sparingly when you create a website. Even if your visitors have the right flash player (and many won’t), it will increase your site’s download time. Flash is also one of the Web site design elements that is not yet accessible to search engines, which means it can only hinder your search engine optimization efforts.
Reduce server requests
Any element of your design that loads from a different server whether it be a graphic, an audio clip, or an ad will elicit an HTTP request each time the page loads. Create a website with limited external content to reduce loading time.
Switch to CSS
Many Web designers now use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) instead of the more traditional table layout. CSS is a styling language that has a dual purpose in professional Web design: it can save you time when you create a website and save your visitors time by drastically reducing page size and download time.
When you create a website design for your business, go the extra mile to ensure your website has the speed your visitors need — or risk getting passed by.
